How to Find Out What Others Are Saying About You

Today I was asked, “how can I tell (if) my blog is reaching other sites?”  Which also means where is it showing up, who’s reading it - and most importantly what are other saying about you?  This is where a great, simple and free tool comes into play - Google Alerts.

Per Google…Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.

Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:

  • monitoring a developing news story
  • keeping current on a competitor or industry
  • getting the latest on a celebrity or event
  • keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams

There’s a simple sign up form and voila before you know it you’ll know where “you” are showing up on the web and be able to respond, join the conversation, keep your eye on what’s said.  All of this is known as being relevant.

Some things you may want to receive alerts on are:  your blog, you, your website, your top keywords, and your favorite competition.

I’d also choose the comprehensive option instead of just - blog, web, video, etc that way you’ll get it all - then you’ll know for sure what others are saying about you!
